Shanghai in the 1920s.

In my novel, Death in Shanghai, I try to be as historically accurate as possible, using the old colonial names for the places and streets.

Many of these areas still exist in modern day Shanghai, albeit with new names.

Here are just a few of the places featured in the book. You can still visit most of them today.

I'll post more about the people and places of Shanghai in the future.

The Shanghai Rowing Club. Scene of the showdown. It was knocked down in 2009. A half-built 'replica' stands on the site now. Sorry it's so small. I'll try to find a better picture.
